The Return of Jake's Gift

Post  LJB on Tue Aug 26, 2008 8:25 am

YES, JAKE, YOU CAN COME HOME!

After winning all possible awards at our Fringe last year, (4 of them) Jake’s Gift is still the most polished offering at the 2008 Victoria Fringe. Now that I have seen it 3 times, laughing and crying, I still want to go back and watch how Julia Mackey’s face goes from 10 to 87 in a split second. Take everyone to this show….definitely the in-laws and especially the kids and the grandparents. Jake’s Gift is destined to be called a classic
of Canadian theatre.

Wow girl, where did you learn to act? Outstanding. You are a crazy good actor and I hope Jake's Gift is seen by a lot of people.

Incredible

We, too, saw this last year, but took friends to see it again this year. Wonderful, touching, clever, funny - this has it all! Can't believe the dexterity Julia shows in jumping back and forth between a 10 year old and a veteran - and each is entirely believable! This should be filmed.

You could be the most stubborn person in the world. You could go into this show wanting to HATE it. Even if your life depended on it, you wouldn't be able to. It's as if there's a little French girl just tugging at your heart strings till you finally give in and succumb to tears.

POSSIBLY THE BEST....

This woman is a truly astounding performer. Her character switches were flawless, and the story deeply touching. No wonder she's going on a nation-wide tour. 5 1/2 out of 5.
