Kaitlin Williams brings such heart to this solo show. After the inevitable exposition ( always the hardest part) I got quite swept up in the performance and the story. The script is often clever, occassionally a bit too cute, but ultimatley smart and thought provoking. The themes of racism, child abuse and coming of age are nicely balanced by a constant stream of laughs. Very tricky - to juggle very serious subject matter with lots of funny bits - and in the hands of a less likeable performer this show might have fallen flat...but Williams is sincere and posesses a charming comic side that is lovely to watch. And she nailed the emotional heart of the role. The audience tonight lept to their feet at the end of the performance... well deserved.
